Why South Yorkshire People’s Network?

South Yorkshire People’s Network is bold, intentional and unapologetically ours. It says what it means - that our new transport network puts people at the heart of all our decisions.

It’s designed to stand out, spark conversation and signal that change is happening that will shape journeys for generations to come.

Our new name and brand are part of a much bigger mission. They show our pride in taking back control and our commitment to building a transport system that truly works for South Yorkshire.

Why orange? Why these visuals?

Our colours - molten orange, greys and asphalt black - nod to our industrial roots: steel, coal and the kind of Northern grit that keeps this region going. They speak to our resilience too. We’ve had our setbacks, but we don’t give up. We keep moving forward.

The logo brings that spirit together. The 'link' S stands for South Yorkshire, with four lines representing one connected region of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield. It’s a simple symbol of what this network is all about: bringing people and places together.

But the South Yorkshire People’s Network is more than a new look. It’s a sign of real change in how transport works here. It reflects a simple purpose: helping people feel connected - to each other, to opportunity, and to the places that matter - easily and with pride.

Why did you need a new brand?

We took control of Supertram in 2024 which had been run by a private operator for nearly 30 years. In 2025, we took the decision to take back control of buses and franchised buses will be on our streets from next year. We already own stops, shelters and interchanges so now is the right time to create a one South Yorkshire transport brand that brings everything together and signals that public transport truly belongs to the people – a real People’s Network.

If we didn’t undertake this work, we’d have a mismatch of brands across the public transport system including branding owned by private operators. By taking back control of public transport, we want to restore pride, purpose and prosperity in our communities so creating one South Yorkshire transport brand shows we care about what things look like.

The new brand goes alongside the new vision for transport which puts people at the heart of everything we do. We’ll invest profits back into improving services and creating a truly joined up transport network that connects people to where we want to go.

What brand changes will people see immediately?

From this year, people will start to see the new brand rolled out on our bus stops, shelters and interchanges, frontline tram staff uniforms and a new South Yorkshire People’s Network website, replacing Travel South Yorkshire.

From next year, the brand will start rolling out on the buses SYMCA control and on bus driver uniforms, trams, tram stops and shelters, the South Yorkshire-wide E-bike subscription programme and Sheffield city centre bike hire scheme.

In the next five years, people will see the brand on 25 new trams and on our wayfinding.

Is this the final brand? If not, how will we be involved in shaping it?

What you’ll see at launch is just the start. The name, the colour and the purpose are set, but the way the brand shows up across the network will grow as the network itself improves.

And we want people to help shape how it feels in practice. Over the coming months we’ll be inviting views through public engagement and online channels. We’ll listen to what works and what doesn’t, and we’ll use that feedback to guide how the brand evolves. It needs to stay rooted in the people it serves, and that only happens if we keep the conversation open.

What is happening to the Supertram brand?

The Supertram name will continue to exist and will be a sub-brand of South Yorkshire People’s Network.

We’ll see visual updates to the network over the next few years with tram stops and shelters and staff uniforms being the first branded items to be introduced.

Does this mean Travel South Yorkshire will be no longer and will be re-branded?

For now, all your real-time information, maps, journey planner and ticket information remains on www.travelsouthyorkshire.com.

The new South Yorkshire People’s Network brand will eventually replace the Travel South Yorkshire (TSY) brand. We’re doing this work over time so TSY won’t disappear immediately.

We will be developing a new South Yorkshire’s People Network website to replace the TSY website by the end of this year, but other assets will take time.
